Job Title:    DIRECTOR OF MINISTRIES WITH CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES

Job Parameters:    This position will be a part-time job, with a maximum of 30 hours/week

Reports To:    Senior Pastor, Staff Parish Relations Committee

Supervises:    Director of Parents Day Out, Nursery Coordinator

Purpose:    Promote spiritual growth among children from birth to sixth grade
                   Provide vision for new and existing ministries to meet the needs of children and their families
                   Promote healthy relationships among children and their families
                   Promote children’s participation in church-related ministries and missions
                   Integrate all programming for children which occurs on campus with the vision and mission of the    
                     church, including PDO, nursery, and The Kessler School
                  Serve with and assist the Senior Pastor with appropriate pastoral opportunities and concerns

Responsibilities:    
                   Ensure planning, organization, implementation, communication, growth, and regular evaluation
                     of all child-related ministries
                   Recruit and equip lay leadership for effective child-related ministry
                   Teach, nurture, and guide children through all the ministries offered by the church
                   Supervise the Director of Parents Day Out, ensuring that the overall program fulfills the mission and    
                     vision of the church
                   Supervise the Nursery Coordinator, ensuring that the church nursery facilities are maintained at peak
                     quality, and that nursery workers are trained and equipped to provide professional care
                   Ensure adequate maintenance of all child-related records and administration, including budget,
                     Ministry Safe certification, and background checks
                   Interpret and communicate the goals and needs of children to the church at large, and encourage
                     intergenerational relationship building
                   Support child-related ministries in the District and Conference, and ecumenical ministries
                   Provide counsel and promote nurture of children, their families, and child-related groups through
                     advice, intervention and education, via phone, mail, email, visitation, appointments,
                     classes/seminars/retreats, and referral to specialized resources
                   Attend weekly staff meetings, assist with worship, visitation, and other congregational care duties as
                     directed by the Senior Pastor

Requirements:    
                   Bachelor’s degree
                   Experience working with children and families, and a genuine love and concern for children
                   Ability to work with varied personalities and perspectives
                   Strong commitment to the Christian faith as expressed in the United Methodist tradition
                   Flexibility with regard to work schedule
                   Committed to openness and inclusiveness concerning same-sex families and individuals
                   Experience managing a day school or preschool preferred
