The Stewpot, established in 1975 by First Presbyterian Church of Dallas, offers a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas, providing resources for basic survival needs, as well as opportunities to start a new life. At its main location on the corner of Park Avenue and Young Street in downtown Dallas, The Stewpot provides casework assistance and enrichment programs to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, as well as Children & Youth and Family Stabilization programs to at-risk children and their families.
The Catalyst Group working with homelessness has provided clothing and blankets in the winter. Members of the Catalyst Group have also recorded stories of homeless individuals who attend the weekly Dallas Street Choir rehearsal for StoryCorps, whose mission is to “preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world.” Listen/read at the StoryCorps website.
